Attention Central Boomers
Come join us at the Pepperdine Lectures 2020 for challenging and informative keynote speakers and classes, great fellowship, inspiring praise and worship and the beautiful scenery of Malibu California.
If you have an interest or want further information, contact Lanny Newton by phone [670.2818] or email.
Our purpose is to include all older adults, both in the surrounding community and in the church, and to be engaged in ministry and outreach. Whether it’s through Bible study, social activities, or meeting the needs of others, we want to exhibit the love of Jesus in all we do. Most of all, we desire to be conduits in passing on a vibrant faith to the generations following us. The psalmist reminds us, “Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, til I declare your power to the next generation." (Psalm 71:18)
Things we do for fun and fellowship include:
• Sunshiners Luncheon the 2nd Monday of the month at noon in Sneed Hall (September through May).
• Young at Heart the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm, which is a covered dish potluck along with games.
• From time to time, we take a trip or tour somewhere.
There are opportunities for service, too. Mission trips, service projects through our “Helping Hands” ministry, calling on the sick and those confined at home. Whatever your passions and gifts, we’ve got a place for you to serve.
On Sundays, you can choose from three different Bible classes that meet at 9:00 am. We also have groups that meet weekly, every two weeks or monthly.
A prayer for Boomers
Our Father in heaven,
As we, the finite ones, mark another year, we look to you the Infinite One. We give thanks to you for your infinite love and grace. We give thanks to you for our struggles of this past year recognizing you are shaping us more into the image of Jesus. When we suffer, help us see the sacredness of suffering. Father, we believe but help us in our unbelief.
In this New Year when doubts try to steal our peace, we put confidence in you. When fears grip us, we will trust the One who calms our storms. When we find it difficult to love and forgive, remind of your unconditional love and forgiveness for us.
Father, as the Central Boomers, give us a greater vision of your Kingdom. As your disciples, teach us to look outside ourselves in using our time, our talents and our treasure to increase your presence in this world. May we not be consumed with materialism and selfish ambition but instead, let us be content and have the mind of Christ who has given us his all. Just as Jesus sought out the lost and the marginalized, help us through your Spirit to do the same.
For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever.
In the name of Jesus,
Heritage of Faith
In that great hall of faith as listed in Hebrews 11, verse 39, Scripture says all of these were commended through their faith and “we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses.” (Hebrews 12:1)
Our Central congregation of believers stands on the work and faith of generations who have walked in loyal strength before us, witnessing to us by their lives, teaching us to walk by faith and not by sight.
These are the life stories of some of our older, faith brothers and sisters of Central who have helped make this congregation what it is today.
Enjoy reading their stories, saints born before 1927, the “Original Senior Class”, and be encouraged. Be thankful for this, our “Heritage of Faith.”
